Skin Health Information
Q:: What is a micro-peel?
A:: A micro-peel is a treatment that combines Microdermabrasion and topical exfoliants. This allows for the exfoliation of 1 1/2 - 3 layers of the epidermis (the outer-most layer of the skin). The final step allows the esthetician to take advantage of the portal of entry created by the removal of the dead skin cells by applying a vitamin infusion. Other places do a similar treatment, but do not have the wide range of acids, nor do they finish with a vitamin infusion.
Q:: Why is a vitamin infusion important?
A:: Microdermabrasion & chemicals are good for exfoliation, however most stop there. Skin + takes advantage of the portal of entry created by the exfoliation and takes it one step further. By applying the vitamins after the exfoliation they are able to penetrate deeper & more effectively. Many times moisturizers simply sit on top of the skin & are unable to penetrate.
Q:: Who can benefit from a micro-peel?
A:: The short answer is anyone. It doesn't "cure" everything, but everyone can benefit from a deep exfoliation and cleansing. Pores are cleaned out and dead skin cells are removed allowing for bright, new skin.
Q:: What are the side-effects of a micro-peel?
A:: Side effects may include 2 - 6 hours of slight redness and the possibility of 2 - 3 days of light peeling. Very rarely some experiences a more severe reaction, but it is highly uncommon.
Q:: How often does someone need micro-peels?
A:: The ideal situation is to have your first treatment and then have your second treatment in 10 - 21 days. Having the first 2 treatments close together allows for the removal of the entire epidermis. After that, the time between treatments varies. Some come every 3 weeks, some every 3 months. Your esthetician will help develop a treatment plan for your optimum results.
